"Free eSIM" can mean four different things
Most confusion about free eSIMs comes from four different meanings being used interchangeably. Work out which one you actually need before comparing offers.
A free eSIM profile, with a paid plan
The digital SIM itself costs nothing to issue — there is no plastic card to manufacture or ship. Many carriers activate an eSIM at no charge, but you still pay for the data plan loaded onto it.
A short promotional trial
A small block of free data for a few days, so you can test the network before buying. This is what Roami, GigSky, Nomad and Firsty offer. It is time-boxed and usually limited to one per person.
A government-subsidised plan
In the United States, the Lifeline programme gives eligible low-income households free talk, text and data on an eSIM-compatible phone. It needs proof of eligibility — not a travel booking.
A perk bundled with something else
Some devices, credit cards and travel packages now include eSIM data. GigSky, for example, gives up to 5GB to eligible Visa cardholders on top of its standard free trial.

How these free eSIM offers were checked
Last reviewed:
Every free-data figure on this page was read directly from the provider's own website on the date above — not from press releases or affiliate round-ups. Where a provider does not publish a number, we say so rather than estimate it.
Free tiers are promotional and change without notice. We re-check the offers listed here regularly, and you should always confirm the current terms on the provider's site before relying on free data for a trip.

Free eSIM Frequently Asked Questions
Learn more about frequently asked questions regarding free digital SIMs to help you easily start your seamless network experience.
Is the free eSIM trial really free?
Yes, our free eSIM trial plan is completely free — no credit card is required, and there are no hidden fees. We want you to experience our premium network service before committing to a larger data plan, making it one of the best free eSIM trial options available.
Which countries does the free trial eSIM support?
Currently, our free trial eSIM covers many popular travel and business destinations worldwide, including the United States, Japan, South Korea, various European countries, and Southeast Asia. You can find your desired country in the list above.
How much data does the free eSIM trial include?
The free trial eSIM includes 100MB of high-speed data — perfect for contacting family, booking a ride, or checking maps upon arrival. If you need unlimited data later, you can easily upgrade to one of our paid plans with larger allowances.
How long is the free eSIM trial valid for?
Your free eSIM trial is valid for 7 days after activation. If you enjoy the service, you can seamlessly extend it by choosing a long-term, high‑capacity plan on our platform at any time.
How do I install the free eSIM trial?
After successfully claiming your free trial eSIM, you’ll receive an email with a QR code. Go to your phone's 'Settings' > 'Cellular/Mobile Data' > 'Add eSIM', scan the code, and the installation finishes in about a minute. The whole process is quick and easy.
Does the free eSIM trial support mobile hotspot sharing?
Yes. You can share the data from your free trial eSIM via your phone’s hotspot with other devices, such as tablets or laptops, or even with travel companions.
Can the free eSIM trial be used for phone calls and SMS?
The free eSIM trial is data‑only and does not include traditional voice calls or SMS. However, you can easily use apps like WhatsApp, Skype, FaceTime, or WeChat for voice and video calls over the data connection.
What if my device is not compatible with the free eSIM trial?
Before claiming your free trial, please make sure your phone supports eSIM (most newer models like iPhone 17, iPhone 16, Samsung Galaxy, and Google Pixel do). You can check our Device Compatibility List. If your device isn’t compatible, you won’t be able to install and use the service.
Can the free eSIM trial be upgraded to a paid plan?
Absolutely! When your free trial data runs out or expires, you don’t need to install a new SIM — just purchase a paid data package for your destination on our website, and the data will be added directly to your existing eSIM, so you can continue enjoying uninterrupted connectivity.
Is a free eSIM really $0?
It depends which kind of "free" you are being offered. A promotional trial — like ours, GigSky's or Nomad's — is genuinely $0, with no card and no subscription behind it. A free eSIM profile only means the digital SIM costs nothing to issue; the data plan on it is still paid. Always check which one you are getting.
How much free data do eSIM providers actually give?
The published free allowances are small by design — they are meant to get you online on arrival, not to replace a real plan. At the time of writing: Nomad gives 1GB for 3 days, GigSky and Roami give 100MB for 7 days, and Firsty offers a free tier in 176 countries without publishing an allowance. Enough for maps, a rideshare and your email.
Can I get a free eSIM without a credit card?
Yes. Roami, GigSky, Nomad and Firsty all issue their free trial without asking for payment details. A card only becomes necessary if you decide to buy a paid plan afterwards, or if you are claiming a card-linked perk such as GigSky's Visa offer.
Can I keep my WhatsApp number with a free eSIM?
Yes. An eSIM handles data only, so your WhatsApp, iMessage and Telegram stay tied to your existing phone number — nothing needs to be migrated or re-verified. Keep your primary SIM active for calls and SMS and set the free eSIM as your mobile data line.
Why did my free eSIM stop working?
There are only a few usual causes: the free allowance is used up, the validity window has expired, data roaming is switched off for that line, or the eSIM was deleted from the device. Check your remaining data and expiry date first, then confirm roaming is on for the eSIM line specifically rather than your main SIM.
