Estonia eSIM or Prepaid SIM Card: A Side-by-Side Comparison
Avoid EU Roaming Data Cuts
Elisa and Tele2 plans block EU roaming entirely. Telia's €24/200GB plan allows only 23GB in the EU (88.5% reduction). Roami eSIM provides full-speed data across all EU countries without FUP limits.
Bypass Estonia's SIM Activation Hassles
Telia requires a phone call within Estonia to activate, and iPhone users must disable iMessage/FaceTime to avoid SMS charges. Roami eSIM activates instantly via QR code – no calls, no settings changes.
Unrestricted Hotspot Sharing
Some local plans may restrict tethering. Roami eSIM allows full-speed hotspot on all devices – share your connection with laptops or tablets without extra fees or throttling.
Stop Wasting Money on 30-Day Plans
All major Estonian prepaid plans (Telia, Elisa, Tele2) use 30-day cycles. A 3-day trip wastes over 80% of the plan's value. Roami offers 7-day plans from $2.99, matching your exact stay.

Does eSIM Work Everywhere in Estonia? City and Rural Coverage Guide
Complete guide to eSIM internet speeds, network coverage, and connection quality for travelers in Estonia. Find out what speeds to expect and where eSIM works best.
-
Which network in Estonia has the best coverage for travelers — Telia, Elisa, or Tele2?
Estonia has three main carriers: Telia, Elisa, and Tele2. Telia reaches about 95% of the population with 4G/5G. Elisa covers roughly 90% but has stronger rural reach. Tele2 offers competitive pricing, often 15-20% cheaper than Telia. Estonia uses 5G on n78 band with nationwide coverage. Roami automatically connects you to whichever is strongest at your location. -
Do I need a passport or ID to use eSIM in Estonia? How does the verification work?
Yes, Estonia requires identity verification for eSIM. Estonia requires KYC verification for prepaid SIM cards. Passport required. Many travelers learn this only after arriving, then struggle with airport WiFi while waiting for approval. Complete verification before you go — it takes about 5-10 minutes. Also, some phones work better with Telia’s network than others — check our eSIM compatibility page. -
What are the cheapest eSIM options for a trip to Estonia?
Roami Estonia eSIM plans start at $1.99 (7 days, 1GB) and go up to $76.99 (30 days unlimited). For a typical 5-7 day trip, the 5GB plan at $6.99 is the sweet spot — enough for maps, messaging, and checking social media. Need to stream video or work remotely? Go with 10GB or unlimited. Thanks to Telia’s 5G network, streaming and video calls work great. Airport SIM kiosks charge 30-50% more, and you have to wait in line. Not sure about your data needs? Start small and top up through the app without changing your eSIM. -
Do I need to remove my physical SIM to use eSIM in Estonia?
Not at all — the physical SIM keeps slot 1 and the eSIM sits in slot 2 beside it. Your home line handles SMS and calls while the eSIM carries data. Most phones from 2020 onward support dual SIM this way. -
How do I know if my Estonia eSIM plan is active and ready to use?
After purchasing, you’ll receive the QR code within minutes. Install it before your trip. The plan activates automatically when your phone connects to a network in Estonia — you’ll see a carrier name in your status bar. You can verify by opening any webpage or checking your Roami account. If nothing happens after 2 minutes, enable Data Roaming or restart your phone. -
How many eSIM profiles can I store on my phone for traveling to Estonia?
Most phones store 5-10 eSIM profiles. You can keep your Estonia eSIM alongside your home SIM and other country profiles. Just activate the one you need and deactivate others. Switching between them takes about 10 seconds in your phone settings. -
Can I buy a Estonia eSIM at the last minute, right before my flight?
Yes — the QR code is delivered by email within minutes of purchase. You can buy it at the airport gate and install it on the plane using WiFi. When you land in Estonia, just enable Data Roaming and you’ll be online immediately. -
How far in advance should I buy my Estonia eSIM?
You can buy anytime — even at the gate. The QR code arrives within minutes. We recommend buying a few days before so you can install on WiFi at home. The plan only activates when you connect in Estonia, so buying early doesn’t waste your plan days.
